Privacy Policy for Questy

Viable Labs (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Questy mobile application (the “App”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our App.

1. Who We Are

Questy is a family task management app designed to support children with structured routines. The App is intended for use by parents/guardians and their children, including children under 13.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information (Parents Only)

  • Email address and password, used for authentication via Firebase Authentication
  • This information is provided voluntarily when a parent creates an account

Family and Child Data

  • Child profile information: name, avatar selection, and theme preferences (created by the parent)
  • Task data: task names, schedules, completion status, and points
  • Reward data: reward names and redemption history
  • Achievement and streak progress

Device Information

  • Push notification tokens (Firebase Cloud Messaging), used solely to deliver in-app notifications such as task reminders and approvals
  • Anonymous device identifiers for child devices linking to a family

Locally Stored Data

The App stores data locally on the device using Hive (an on-device database) for offline functionality. This data is not transmitted to third parties.

3. How We Use Information

We use collected information exclusively to:

  • Provide the App’s core functionality (task management, rewards, family synchronization)
  • Synchronize data across family members’ devices via Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore)
  • Send push notifications for task reminders, approvals, and reward updates
  • Authenticate parent accounts

We do not use collected information for:

  • Advertising or marketing
  • Profiling, behavioral tracking, or analytics
  • Sale or sharing with third parties

Website cookies

The Questy website (viablelabs.net) uses cookies for analytics and advertising measurement, with your consent. These cookies help us understand how visitors find and use our site, and allow us to measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns. You can accept or decline cookies at any time via the banner on our website. No cookies are used within the Questy app itself.

4. Children’s Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

We are committed to protecting children’s privacy:

  • Only parents/guardians can create accounts and manage family data
  • Children do not provide personal information directly; parent-created profiles contain only a first name and avatar choice
  • Child devices authenticate anonymously (no email or password required)
  • We do not collect, use, or disclose children’s personal information beyond what is necessary for the App to function
  • A parent or guardian may review, delete, or refuse further collection of their child’s information by deleting the child’s profile within the App or by contacting us

5. Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services, operated by Google:

  • Firebase Authentication - for parent account management
  • Cloud Firestore - for cloud data storage and synchronization
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging - for push notifications

These services are governed by Google’s Privacy Policy. Data is stored on Google’s servers located in the United States and Europe. We do not use Firebase Analytics, Google Ads, or any other tracking or advertising services.

6. Data Security

We protect your data through:

  • Encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for all data in transit
  • Firebase security rules restricting data access to authenticated family members only
  • Passwords handled by Firebase Authentication (we never store passwords directly)

7. Data Retention and Deletion

  • Data is retained as long as your account exists
  • Parents can delete individual child profiles, tasks, and rewards at any time within the App
  • To delete your account and all associated data entirely, contact us at the email below
  • Upon account deletion, all associated data is permanently removed from our servers

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you and your family
  • Correct inaccurate information via the App
  • Delete your data (see section 7)
  • Withdraw consent for push notifications via your device settings

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes through the App or via email. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
